I hope this finds you all fit and well and raring to go as our new camping season is almost upon us once again – in fact we’ve already had several really good meets this year.
I’m having a senior moment here…. it seems such a long time since New Year that I had convinced myself that I had already congratulated Sue and her team on organising yet another memorable New Year Meet at Storthes Hall. Maybe not… well, I think we will agree that a good time was had by all. Sadly for us Harold and Jayne told us that they would be trying out something different for future New Years. Understandably there were a few tears as they have been fantastic over the years giving us all many special nights to remember ; they assured us that they were not disappearing altogether, it was just that were so many experiences out there waiting for them to try. I think we all come to this point in our lives at some time.
The first meet after the New Year was our Photographic weekend at Copley Cricket Club – always a popular meet, getting the year off to a good start. It was lovely to welcome back Richard and Steph Gilbert and Linda Roberts and friend who used to camp with us regularly several years ago.
Richard had contacted me prior to the meet to find out the theme for our competition – He’ll have to camp with us again now as he won the trophy for the set of four, all with a humorous slant. Well done Richard. I was delighted to win the trophy for the best photograph for the third year running. Our thanks go to Chris Nunn for judging the show for us and for setting next year’s theme which is “Architecture”. The competitions were followed by another of Ann and Tony Nelson’s very entertaining film shows and supper cooked by Nick and Carolyn.
Well done also to Sharon and Andrew Haigh for organising and stewarding the weekend meet at Teversal near Mansfield. Not only did they steward but they organised the meal and tickets for the Friday evening northern soul night and the carvery on the Saturday evening where we celebrated Clive’s 60th birthday. Janice and Clive very kindly bought each couple a bottle of wine with their meal and made bacon butties at Sunday coffee morning.
Our AGM is fast approaching which gives us all a chance to look back on our last year’s camping and look forward to our forthcoming year. I look forward to talking to you all there and hopefully welcoming any members who feel that they would like to join us on our committee as we have some key positions to fill.
I’ll sign off now as I’m going to start on my AGM report….. Think I’ll have a coffee first
