Lesley’s Latest

Hi Everyone

This will be our last newsletter before we take our break for the summer. I hope you have all enjoyed the half term holidays – Peter and I spent a few very pleasant if not chilly days near the coast.

So far it has been a busy year with a bumper Easter Meet and a very successful Meet at Ripon celebrating the Diamond Jubilee. The street party was excellent with visitors all saying how much they had enjoyed it. We also celebrated Geoff Hopkin, our President’s 75 birthday at Grange Ash Farm – we had a lovely evening and the bubbly went down a treat. Also on the same weekend, Ann Fuller held her celebrations for her 60th birthday with family and friends – many happy returns to both of you.

We have decided to take up the challenge of running next year’s Region Meet as it is our turn in the cycle of DA’s and we feel very strongly that we should play our part in the running of Region Events. I have been informed by Region that we are the 3rd largest and most popularly supported DA in the Yorkshire Region which is brilliant!

I realise that we had a mixed response when we talked about the Region Meet at the AGM, but I have been assured that there will be lots of help available from both Region and other DA’s. The way in which they organise the Region Meet has changed dramatically since the last time that we hosted this event. Julie is in the process of or has already sent round a list of key roles to support the meet and if any of you feel that you would like to help please come forward.

As you all know, our newly elected PRO Paul Jessop and wife Debbie have had to leave us for pastures new down in Bude, Cornwall. If anyone is interested in joining the committee for the remainder of the year to fill this position, you can be co-opted – you would be part of the committee, but as a co-opted member you would have no voting rights until being properly elected at next year’s AGM.

Our last meet before the break is at Old Brodleans , unfortunately, Peter and I have a family wedding to go to that weekend, so the Duck Race at Thorpe will be our last before we all go our separate ways for the summer holidays.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for all of their hard work so far this year and hope you all have a fabulous summer.
