Chair Man′s Chat

Spring 2008

I would like to thank everyone who attended our AGM at the National Coal Mining Museum. It was very pleasing to welcome Mike Smith who was representing Yorkshire Air Ambulance (YAA), our chosen charity for 2007. It was even more pleasing to be able to present a cheque to Mike for almost £900. We all travel many miles by road to enjoy our chosen pastime of camping and caravanning and I hope that we never have to call on the YAA for their services.
It was good to hear several local charities being proposed for our chosen charity for 2008.

meeting seemed to go very well until we reached the point where we elect officers to the Committee. There were several vacancies to fill as some members of the Committee were not seeking re-election or had resigned due to personal circumstances. As the Chair of the DA, I was not prepared to let things stand and appealed to our members to consider making a contribution to the work of the DA by standing for Committee. Following a tense impasse, the members came up trumps and we managed to fill all vacant positions. I am hopeful that others will list the composition of the new Committee and I was particularly pleased to welcome all the new victims! at the first meeting of the Committee immediately following the AGM.

This DA has a long history of being a quite active DA and I am hopeful that this will now continue. As I am writing this, just after preparing the Easter Programme and writing the Steward′s Report for the Kirkburton Meet, my thoughts are turning to the preparations for the Easter Meet and I am meeting with Paul Wood and Alan Carr later today to collect necessary equipment from the stores. This is the earliest time that Easter can be in the year and we have very little time to prepare for our largest meet of the season. For your information, I will attempt to explain why Easter is such a moveable feast as Easter Sunday can be any date between March 22 to April 25.The official definition of Western Easter is that it takes place on: The first Sunday after the first full moon on or after the vernal equinox. I hope that helps ! Whilst we are looking at dates, remember that we put clocks forward on Sunday 30th. March at 01.00h
