Whilst I am writing this I can reflect on the recent successful events over the last month.
At York we were again fully booked for our annual “Shopping Meet” which coincides with York’s St Nicholas Fair. A different theme was applied to make it a Christmas games night at our social which proved to be a welcome change with the majority of attendees sporting their Christmas jumpers!
This was followed a fortnight later with our Annual Dinner Dance at Elland, which again was well attended.
My thanks go out to ALL those who participated & helped to make both events so enjoyable.
So, now as you read this, we are on with the New Year celebrations, hasn’t 2017 gone so fast!
Our Entertainments Officer, Chris is introducing a number of new ideas over the meet so please join in with the games, the sing along & the casino night.
To see the New Year in we welcome a new DJ, Chris Young who is no stranger to some of us as he married Anna Pyrah this year – so be gentle with him!
2018 holds a special place in Huddersfield DA history as we reach a 50 year milestone. You should be aware that we are holding a Celebration Gala Dinner at Elland on the 17th March, camping is available and we would welcome old & current members of the DA to celebrate with us.
This promises to be a memorable event with live entertainment included in the very reasonable price of £25 per head for the meal.
However before that we have the AGM at the Ukrainian Club and I would again ask for anyone to consider joining us on the committee as it takes a variety of individuals to form a team to run the DA.
Camping is available and we will be holding a social in the evening.
Finally you may have heard about the impending closure of Spen Valley DA. This is a saga that has been going on throughout 2017, a decision that other DAs and Sections have been faced with and subsequently folded.
However, Spen committee have expressed a wish for our two DA’s to merge and this move has been agreed in principle by your committee.
This proposal will be put forward for your approval at the AGM.
So………. that just leaves me to wish you all A Very Happy (and exciting) New Year!
